Poor Kathryn and Sarah. I can sympathize after spending about 14 hours at Toronto Airport, but I think you’ve got that beat! Hope you can get some sleep on the plane. Thinking of you.

Hi Guys. You still looked sane at this point. Did you get a little “squirrelly” by the end of it all? Looking forward to the pictures of fun and fantastic. Stay safe. Love, Mama English

Kathryn: Good luck on your adventure. It sounds very exciting and I’m glad you’re getting to do it. Also, I think it was very nice of you to put a photograph of your father on the bottom right of your pages. I’ve told him the same thing. It was a very flattering photo.

    Hi all!

Sarah: I hope the travelling was good and that you’re settling in. Have a great summer shovelin poo…haha. Take care and I’ll be a writin, lots of love. xoxo

Glad to hear you survived your flights! Few things put you in a better mood than rotting in airports. This gig should be a piece of cake compared to growing up with Hulk Hogan and his friends, and probably a lot less hazardous, poo or no poo! I’ll think of you later this summer when in the Hebrides, where the air is clear and the livin’ is easy, and be glad it’s you and not me, that’s the better humanitarian! As I tell Amber-who’s currently summering in Puerto Rico- don’t trust anybody!! Stay safe, Nancy

Kathryn: I am writting to correct an egregious error, which your father thankfully has brought to my attention. It seems he took offense because I made an honest error in thinking that the photograph of the cute little creature on your page, the one with the fuzzy hair and the big pot belly, was him. An honest mistake made by a guy with admittedly poor vision, to say nothing of lousy eyesight.

Taking this conversation up a notch or two, I would hasten to agree with Nancy’s advice to you. We are not trying to be alarmist, but it is in the parents’ handbook that we all must worry. When we are tired of worrying about our own kids, then we expend whatever worry we have left on the kids of others who mean a lot to us. Having said all that, I hope you have a positive experience and I am sure you will. You have embarked on a great adventure that carries with it the great opportunity for personal growth.

When I was your age–actually, a little younger–I was in Asia. Unfortunately, my Uncle Sam paid my fare. He was cheap, though, and didn’t give me an airplane ticket. My trip to Korea took two weeks. Ugh. I still recall that. It was sort of like torture in slow motion. The only “quick” motion came when I would occasionally lose my lunch in the rough seas of the (misnamed) Pacific Ocean.

As I said, enjoy yourself. It is true what they say about only being young once. Go for it,kid.

Sarah: Wonderful to “see” you there. How lucky you are! yeah, yeah, there is the poo, but so what?! Pack in the memories by the ton, and have a orang-outang of a time!

ok ms. kathryn, first of all, out of our 20 short years of being friends was there no other picture you could of chosen for this page. i mean really. even though i thoroughly enjoyed my time upsidedown it doesn’t make for a very presentable picture for the world to see.

secondly, i’m sorry i wasn’t home to see you off for, as you know, i was in mexico. i can’t believe our trip is here/so close! it seemed so far away so procrastinating was so easy. but don’t worry my flights are booked and paid for so there’s no turning back now.

Lastly, i’m pretty impressed with you for actually going through with this malasia-poo-shoveling excursion. this will be the trip to tell the grandkids about that’s for sure. take care of each other and keep up the updates! i’ll see you soon!

    so much love,
    vid
